John Masefield（梅斯菲爾德）
曾獲1930年喬治五世所授的
“英國桂冠詩人”稱號，
他只寫過26首詩，
14歲起便當水手，
長期的漂泊生活，
使他成為了著名的“大海的詩人”，
這首《海之戀》表達了John Masefield對
大海的熱愛和深深眷戀之情。
Sea of love
海之戀
I must go down to the seas again，
to the lonely sea and the sky，
And all I ask is a tall ship
and a star to steer her by，
And the wheel‘s kick and the wind’s song
and the white sail‘s shaking，
And a grey mist on the sea’s face，
and a grey dawn breaking。
我必須再去看看大海，
去看那寂寥的大海與長天，
我只要一艏（桅杆）高高的航船，
還要一顆星星為我導航，
呵還要堅固的舵輪，輕吟的海風，
飄揚的白帆，還要，
還要在海霧濛濛時出航，
好感受破曉時分的朦朧紫光。
I must go down to the seas again，
for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call
that may not be denied；
And all I ask is a windy day
with the white clouds flying，
And the flung spray and the blown spume，
and the sea-gulls crying。
我必須再去看看大海，
為著應合那咆哮的海濤的召喚，
呵，多麼粗獷多麼嘹亮，
世間又有誰能把它違抗；
我希望海空中有疾風如駿馬賓士，
有白雲似蒼狗翱翔，還有，
還有浪花的飛濺，泡沫的翻騰，
海鳥的吟唱。
I must go down to the seas again，
to the vagrant gypsy life，
To the gull‘s way and the whale’s way，
where the wind‘s like a whetted knife；
And all I ask is a merry yarn
from a laughing fellow-rover，
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream
when the long trick’s over。

像吉普賽人一樣享受一次流浪，或者
像海鷗搏擊長空，巨鯨嬉戲大洋，
像刀劍任風兒打磨得鋥明瓦亮
我只希望身邊有一個快樂的旅伴
時時講一些海上奇談，
希望長久的操舵後有一個安靜的睡眠，
進入甜蜜的夢鄉。
