Dredging to remove 1M cubic meters of mud from Yundang Lake

The Xiamen Yundang Lake Protection Center announced last week that a new round of dredging work will begin at the end of the month on 1。5 square kilometers of the lake。 Workers are expected to dredge one million cubic meters of sludge from the lake bottom。

Xiamen launched its first annual Volunteer Day last Saturday， when dozens of local volunteer groups offereed various services at the Jinbang Academy Square。 The city simultaneously launched its Xiamen Volunteer Service Exhibition， a new exhibit organized by the Xiamen Civilization Office in conjunction with Volunteers Association。 The exhibit， which highlights local volunteer stories， is located in the Art Space of Jinbang Academy and it runs through the end of the month。 The exhibit includes 100 photos of local volunteers in action。 Exhibit representatives described the event as part of a broader campaign to encourage volunteerism。

Xiamen‘s warm weather has sparked a spring boom in flower tourism， according to online tourism bookings and reports from local travel agencies。 Flower-related searches on Ctrip are up by 280 percent over the previous month。 Booked tickets for scenic spots featuring flowers are up by 115 percent。 Overall， the city is in the midst of a boom in spring tourism。
Classes set to resume at Xiamen Music School’s Gulangyu campus

Xiamen Music school officials recently announced that its Gulangyu elementary school will reopen for the fall semester。 Two 30-student first grade classes for piano and string music are set to open this autumn。 Registration begins on March 15 and runs through April 16。 Registration details are available via the 廈門招考 WeChat account。 The school opened on Gulangyu in 1990， beginning as a grade school and middle school。
Construction continues for XM Special Education School expansion

The construction of pile foundation for the expansion of the Xiamen Special Education School began recently。 The project is scheduled for completion next year in August。
The school is located in Kecuo， Qianpu。 The new facility‘s total construction area exceeds 15，000 square meters， including 13，000 square meters above ground and 25，00 square meters of underground space。
The annex includes a six-story classroom building， underground garage and support offices。 The 16-classroom expansion will bring the school to a total of 39 classrooms。
Multiple XM-based firms notch growth in 2020

A series of local firms based primarily in the fields of electronic information， finance and sales notched significant growth last year based on their annual financial reports。
Domestic and international revenue for Wangsu Science and Technology soared last year。 Net profits for the firm topped 210 million yuan in 2020， up more than 500 percent year-on-year。 Kehua Data， which Tencent recently selected for a customized data center project， said that last year’s net profit rose 85 percent to around 400 million yuan。
Other companies notching significant growth included Anjoy Foods， GoldenHome， Hongfa Electroacoustic， Jihong Group， Meiya Pico and Ruida Futures。
Growth soars for Xiamen Free Trade Zone in 2020

Representatives of the Xiamen Area of the Fujian Free Trade Zone said that a total of 768 projects registered in the area in 2020， up 12-fold year-on-year。 Total registered capital for entities in the area topped 66 billion yuan， up fivefold。 The totals included 78 major projects by companies such as JD。com， SF Express and Yuhi 5G Terminal。 Developments in the area slated for this year include more than a dozen major projects in fields such as aircraft maintenance， financing lease and logistics。
Hurun wealth list includes 17 local residents

Hurun recently released its annual list of individual wealth， including summaries by city and province。 The totals include 17 entrants from Xiamen （up by two over the prior year） and 11 from Fuzhou， collectively accounting for a majority of Fujian‘s listees。 Both cities are listed as one of China’s top 20 places for wealthy residents。
China‘s overall list of 100 wealthiest citizes include two Xiamen residents。 Anta chairperson Ding Shizhong notched 65 billion yuan in wealth and vice chairperson Ding Shijia recorded 63 billion yuan in assets。
Air Macau offers discounted flights for XM route

Air Macau representatives recently announced discounted fares between Macau and Xiamen in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the route。 The discount promotion included prices as low as approximately 400 yuan （including tax）。
The city of Xiamen was one of the first destinations served by Air Macau。 Its flights between the two cities began in 1996 on March 1 and was serviced by planes bearing the names of Shengshi Lotus and Dove of Peace。
Air Macau has operated more than 8，000 flights carrying over one million passengers between the two cities over the past 25 years。 The airline operates seven flights a week on the Xiamen-Macao route。
XM container throughput hits a record high

Container throughput in at Xiamen Port hit a new high in February， according to local port authorities。
Container throughput topped 816，000 TEU last month， a record-high for February。 Year-on-year growth exceeded 27 percent。 Throughput during the Spring Festival holiday topped 206，900 TEU。
XM announces a series of major infrastructure projects

Local transit authorities last week announced that a total of 76 traffic improvements are slated for Xiamen this year。 The program calls for more than 17 billion in roadwork this year。 Major portions of the long-term development of the city’s infrastructure include enhancements to Xiamen‘s airports， port facilities and high-speed rail network on the island of Xiamen and in the greater metro area。
Huli ranks first in XM for garbage sorting effectiveness

City officials recently announced the results of garbage sorting assessments carried out in Xiamen’s six districts in January。 Huli led the way， scoring 99。65 points based on a series of unannounced visits to local garbage sorting facilities。 Xiangan ranked second， followed by Siming， Haicang， Tongan and Jimei。
Xiamen Sports Wisdom Gym adds four outlets
