“hold one‘s tongue”如果做直譯，應該可以這樣理解“捂住某人的舌頭”；但是有沒有感覺哪裡怪怪的？
說不上來哪裡不對勁，但是就是不對勁——這就對了！這個英語短語在英翻中時，還是需要稍加修飾的：

：to remain silent or stop talking；
住口，閉口，不說話
