I worked in Tuanjie town
Once the Deputy Mayor Wu and I
went to the county
He went to wait for the county chief early in the morning
I was waiting for him downstairs
When close to the noon break time
He finally came out
Kept touching his face with both hands
I rushed forward
Asked him what‘s wrong with his face
He said the county chief loves to tell jokes
Tried to get things done
Even if the many jokes are obviously not funny
Still have to laugh in the company of the chief
Two more people were there
Also needed the county chief’s help
The three of us were like in a competition
Grinned hardily
Laughed for a long time
Made face swollen
Now
Deputy Mayor Wu has become Deputy County Chief Wu
Laughed for most of his life
Meat on his face

團結 진에 출근할 때
한 번은 烏 부진장과 함께
현성에 일보러 간 적이 있다
부진장은 아침 일찍 나가 현장을 기다렸고
나는 밖에서 부진장을 기다렸다
점심 때가 다 되어서야
부진장에 밖으로 나오면서
두 손으로 얼굴을 만졌다
내가 다급히 다가가
왜서 그러느냐고 물었더니
현장은 웃긴 이야기를 하기 좋아하는데
일을 성사시키려니
웃긴 이야기가 하나도 우습지 않았지만
웃어야 했단다
현장을 만나러 간 사람은
둘이 더 있었는 데
자기들 셋이 시합이라도 하듯이
입을 헤 벌리고 힘껏 웃어
그렇게 반나절이 지나니
얼굴이 부어날 정도라고 했다
지금
오 부진장은
오 부현장으로 되었다
반 평생 웃으면서 지내
얼굴 근육이
두텁고 빛나게 변했다

ÜBUNG MACHT DEN MEISTER
vor 20 jahren
war ich im dorf einigkeit angestellt
einmal gehen vizebürgermeister wu und ich
zur kreisverwaltung
er geht in der früh auf den kreisvorstand warten
ich wart unten auf ihn
zu mittag gegen dienstende
kommt er erst heraus
er hält sich die ganze zeit sein gesicht
ich geh schnell zu ihm
frag ihn was los ist
er sagt der kreisvorstand
liebt witze erzählen
wenn man was von ihm will
viele witze sind gar nicht lustig
aber du musst mitlachen
da waren noch zwei die was von ihm wollten
wir drei haben um die wette
aus vollem hals gelacht
den halben tag gelacht
bis uns das gesicht geschwollen ist
heute
ist vizebürgermeister wu
zum vizekreisvorstand geworden
nach einem halben leben lachen
sind seine wangen glänzend und dick
