1931年，美國約翰霍普金斯大學土壤科學家和地理學教授羅伯特·拉里莫爾·彭德爾頓（Robert Larimore Pendleton 1890-1957）一行，從Kuehwa（歸化城，即呼和浩特）出發，來到土默川平原的Salachi（薩拉齊縣，即今土默特右旗），除了考察土壤之外，還用他的立體相機，拍攝了開挖民生渠的情景、放水典禮的場面以及土默川的種種風情。
